Practical ways a Nigerian small business can use AI today

, by SulPhil Tech Hub

AI tools have become cheap and good enough to help even a three-person business. The trick is to start with a task that already eats your time, not with the technology.

Answering the same questions on WhatsApp

If your staff answer "how much is it?", "where are you located?" and "do you deliver?" all day, an AI assistant connected to your WhatsApp Business number can answer from your own price list and policies, and hand over to a person when it's unsure.

Drafting documents and proposals

Quotes, proposals, job adverts and letters can be drafted in minutes with an AI assistant, then checked and finished by you. Keep a folder of your best past documents so the drafts match your style.

Making sense of your numbers

If you keep sales in a spreadsheet, AI tools can summarise trends, spot your best-selling items and highlight slow months. You still need clean records; AI can't fix missing data.

Where to be careful

  • Customer data. Don't paste customers' personal details into public AI tools. Use business accounts with clear data terms, and follow the Nigeria Data Protection Act.
  • Facts and figures. AI can state wrong information confidently. Check anything you'll send to a customer.
  • Over-automation. Customers still want to reach a person. Always offer a way to talk to someone.

Where to start

Choose one repetitive task, try a tool for two weeks, and measure the time saved. If it works, make it part of how the team operates. If you'd like help choosing or setting one up, that's exactly the kind of project we do.
